What’s up Friends! It’s time for WIP Wednesday. Today I have an all new logo I’ve been finessing for a couple of weeks called “2020 Organics”. What’s CBD? If not immediately apparent via the logo, this business markets high quality non-intoxicating, therapeutic cannabis based products; specifically cannabinol or CBD essential oils. If you were not aware, many studies have demonstrated many benefits in the use of CBD compounds. Such research has shown promising beneficial effects against pain, epilepsy, anxiety, Parkinson’s and others. Research for its use in treatment against diseases such as cancer or arthritis is on the rise, but it’s cure-all image doesn’t seem to be faultering even with the lacking research. Take a look at Vox’s video below for more information*. *Some information presented in the video may be out of date at time of posting. The 2018 Farm Bill was passed in November 2018. My goal for this logo was to reshape the public’s perception of cannabis and marijuana. I think as the plant becomes more mainstream, the stigma of its past has had a harmful side effect on how it is marketed to the public. Therefore, I aimed to make the logo much more refined an elegant compared to the stoner imagery people have traditionally associated with it. To accomplish this I asked common questions from the perspective of consumers during several stages of the design process.
Since many products and businesses tend to rely very heavily on the iconic imagery of the cannabis leaf, it was important for me to relay that message in an auxiliary fashion. Thus, it’s ornamental placement above the “I”. Instead, I chose to focus on the typography of the business name; translating the elegance I wanted to express through calligraphy. I think the organic movement of the lettering supports the idea of what it means to be “Organic”. From that same perspective, nature is incredibly vibrant, often filled with all sorts of colors. So, I set forth in creating many types of green designs. I went through many iterations to incorporate the numbers and leaf naturally but eventually settled on the design below. What do you think? I’m not so convinced by the numbers just yet. I will continue tinkering with it for now.
What is your perception of cannabis? Should it be decriminalized? Have you ever used it for a personal ailment?
